‘We’ll see”…Ianis Hagi’s agent makes Jose Mourinho claim with Rangers return transfer twist

Rangers haven’t scored a goal from open play this summer apart from in a behind closed doors bounce game against Hamilton.

The same old problems were evident against Man Utd as the defence and midfield built play into the final third only for the usual suspects to fluff their lines – who’d be Philippe Clement?

The manager needs all the players he can get his hands on that can post decent numbers and it looks like Ianis Hagi might not have played his last game for Rangers after all.

Ianis Hagi’s agent backtracks amid Rangers exit speculation

Speaking just a few days ago, the Romanian playmaker’s agent claimed that the 25-year old was on his way out:

“Ianis has one year left on his contract with Glasgow Rangers (note: he has two years). I don’t know when he will, and if he will show up [for pre-season]. He’s about to leave.

“I’m also hearing left and right, that several teams would like him. Rangers may want to get something back on him. Ianis does not have a small salary with them. We’ll see, it’s time.”

Hagi’s name will always see him attract interest and, even before Rangers pulled the trigger on his £3m option to buy clause, clubs in Turkey were circulating.

In every window since, due to his dad’s status as a club legend, Galatasaray have been mentioned as possible suitors.

This summer, Fenerbahce led by Jose Mourinho were also said to be keen, however, Hagi’s agent has made another update, according to Spot Media:

“No, not at Galatasary under any circumstances. No no. Mourinho has other thoughts, he takes some players, he doesn’t want to buy. He wants players he knows on loan. Mourinho wants to win with well-paid players.

Everything for a year, borrow for a year. To win the championship in Turkey in the first year of the contract. After that, we’ll see”

Hagi will have plenty of options this summer

The suggestion is that Hagi is going to stay at Rangers for this season before considering a return to the country of his birth.

His loan spell last season at Deportivo Alaves didn’t quite go to plan which will affect his ability to draw interest from the top leagues although Fiorentina are said to have agreed terms with Hagi and are considering a bid to match Rangers £3m valuation.

Clubs in Turkey are spending serious money now and it is certainly a more attractive and wealthy occupation playing in the Super Lig than SPFL.

For now, it looks like Hagi will have to make do with the likes Ross County and St Johnstone.

Games I’m sure he missed when playing in the Camp Nou and Bernabeu last season.

Welcome back Ianis?
