Twist in Ianis Hagi transfer tale with owner in deadline day talks for Rangers playmaker

Rangers finally look to have moved on enough players needed to make a difference to Philippe Clement’s efforts to sign new recruits.

The manager has been up against it since day one in his attempts to rebuild the squad but, finally, the Ibrox exit door is starting to look a bit busier.

One player who seemed destined to stay after an impassioned social media plea is Ianis Hagi, however, there has been a dramatic twist.

Ianis Hagi still being considered for Rangers transfer exit

Clement has spoken at length about the discussions with Hagi and his representatives earlier in the summer and it could be that a late move is still on the cards.

Speaking to GSP, owner of Rangers Europa League opponents FCSB, Gigi Becali, Ianis Hagi could be heading home after all:

“I’m going to talk to Gica (Gheorghe Hagi) tomorrow (today), if he wants, we’ll make an agreement.

“Look, I’m forcing Ianis to start in all eight European matches. And Gica should decide his change, let him decide when he leaves the field.”

FCSB move up against it if Hagi Snr gets involved

Becali might not get the result he wants though, because Hagi Snr has already said that Ianis won’t be heading back to Romania anytime soon:

“Ianis isn’t coming back to Romania now. If he does ever come back, it will be to Farul Constanta.

“Forget what Rangers say, it’s what I say that counts.

“He has a contract with Rangers first and what has happened with him at Rangers is a story…an ugly story from the people responsible.

“It’s ugly.

“This is a player who went there when he was young, was their best player and then got injured.

“He fought back and what happened? He’s training on his own or whoever he’s training with.

“But when something like this happens in Western Europe, we are told, what claims do you have if you are from Romania?

“Excuse me, what would I know? I played at the highest level even though I’m from Romania.

“At one point I just said to them ‘shut up.’

“He won’t come here because he has proved he can be at Rangers. He was their best player.”

There were claims that Rangers might consider cancelling Hagi’s contract, how likely this is, is unsure, also, given his post on Instagram, it doesn’t seem like the sort of thing the player would agree to either.

By 11pm Rangers fans will know one way, or the other, if Ianis Hagi might be seen in the famous Light Blue shirt again.
