Rangers were once again mentioned alongside Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi this week – but days later he’s reportedly set to complete a £6.5m move elsewhere.
The Anfield forward, 23, returned to Merseyside this pre-season after a series of loan moves which have seen him play across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
Last season Nigerian striker Awoniyi turned out for Union Berlin and had a solid season in the Bundesliga, scoring five goals and laying on four assists in 22 games.
According to Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones, he’ll be returning to the German club next season as part of a £6.5m move.

Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic were linked to Awoniyi in January by 90min.com with the Gers being mentioned alongside the player once again this summer.
The Liverpool Echo ran a feature on the striker ahead of pre-season with the player – who’s been at Anfield since 2015 but hasn’t played due to work permit issues – apparently hoping to try and force his way into Klopp’s squad.
Predicting minutes for Awoniyi in pre-season friendlies, the report also revealed that Liverpool had turned down a €5m (£4.3m) bid for Awoniyi from Anderlecht this summer.
The Echo claimed that the Anfield club value the striker at £8m with the player having a contract at the club until 2023 but it appears he’s set for a move to Germany.
Alongside Rangers and Union Berlin, Championship side West Bromwich Albion were also mentioned as potentially interested parties.
Despite these links the Gers are sizeably well-stocked in the striking position.
Rangers have Colombian forward Alfredo Morelos, £3.5m striker Kemar Roofe, Swiss international Cedric Itten and veteran player/coach Jermain Defoe on their books.
That hasn’t stopped the club being linked to a host of strikers with Taiwo Awoniyi not the only Liverpool forward who’s been linked with Ibrox.
