Star’s camp claim to ‘know nothing’ about Rangers links as £3.3m deal played down

The theme of Rangers’ transfer window so far has been one of decisiveness, clarity and speed.

Eight players in and nine out before the calendar turns to August. Certainly, no one could accuse the Scottish Premiership runners-up of missing the opportunity to overhaul their playing squad.

And Rangers’ summer activity can perhaps best be summed up by the two most recent deals to take place at Ibrox.

Vaclav Cerny joined over the weekend in the blink of an eye. Barely 48 hours between the rumours first emerging and the Czech Republic international putting pen to paper on a contract after a deal was agreed to bring him in from Wolfsburg.

And, from incomings to outgoings, the deal which brought an end to Connor Goldson’s six-year spell in Glasgow. Goldson joined Aris Limassol on Tuesday, his exit confirmed after only a few days of speculation.

Rangers’ Joan Jordan deal looks unlkely

The ongoing rumours surrounding Joan Jordan, however, could hardly feel any different. In contrast to the deals which brought in Cerny and shipped out Goldson, this saga has dragged on for over a fortnight already.

And, in terms of ‘clarity’, well lets just say things are about as clear as mud.

One Spanish reporter – Fernando Serrano – reported on X last week that Rangers had seen a bid accepted by Sevilla for the experienced playmaker. All that was missing was supposedly the green light from Jordan’s camp, the 30-year-old offered an initial loan contract with a £3.3 million purchase clause included.

Other sources coming out of Southern Europe, however, are not quite so positive. In fact, Mundo Deportivo go as far as to dismiss the rumours out of hand.

They say – in stark contrast to Serrano’s claims – that Jordan’s camp ‘know nothing’ about those Rangers links.

The former Elche midfielder’s representatives appear to be completely in the dark – more bemused by that ongoing speculation than anything else – while Jordan remains determined to fight for his place at Sevilla after a campaign spent gathering dust on the bench.

Unfortunately for those supporters who were counting down the days before Jordan arrived in Glasgow, all the signs suggest that this is something of a non-starter.

Rangers Review claims that any discussions – if indeed there were discussions – will not be going any further.

Clement’s pursuit of an experienced, deep-lying playmaker capable of pulling the strings and setting the tempo in a manner reminiscent of a latter-day Steven Davis, then, goes on.

Philippe Clement wants more experience at Ibrox

The former Monaco boss, meanwhile, is making no secret of his desire to add more nous to his roster. Barring Liam Kelly – the back-up goalkeeper brought in from Motherwell – Rangers have prioritised young, up-and-coming players this summer.

The departures of Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Goldson, however, leave the club short of proven operators.

“We were focused on everything but it is easier earlier to get the young players in,” Clement tells the Rangers website. “But, for the rest of the transfer window, there will also be experience coming into the building.

“We need a good balance in the squad and in the team of both.

“It was important to find these young talents and I think we have found a few really exciting players for the future for this club.”
