Archie Brown could make a £15 million move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs with Juventus, AC Milan and Premier League giants Chelsea reportedly keen on the one-time Rangers target.

It is ten months since the reports emerged linking the then-Lausanne left-back with a move to Ibrox.

At the time, Archie Brown was available for around £3.5 million. A fee very much within Rangers’ financial reach. And, with hindsight, a bargain for a player who’s market value has trebled in the space of less than a year.

According to The Guardian, with the likes of Chelsea, West Ham United and Juventus showing an interest, a KAA Gent side who snapped up Brown from their Jupiler League rivals could be in line for a tidy profit.

Gent are expected to demand around £15 million. There is also interest from seven-time European Champions AC Milan, as well as Lyon and the Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned Nice. Chelsea, meanwhile, are looking to move on the ill-fitting Marc Cucurella. The Birmingham-born former Derby County youngster is a potential replacement.

Rangers are likely to be in the market for a left-back themselves this summer despite the fact that Ridvan Yilmaz has come on leaps and bounds under Philippe Clement. The long-serving Borna Barisic, after all, is out of contract in July.

Brown, given the size of his price-tag and the stature of the clubs fluttering their eyelashes in his direction, is obviously well out of Rangers’ reach these days. The Glasgow outfit, who slipped up at home to Motherwell on Saturday, are expected to renew their interest in another target from a previous window, however, with Jefte Vital very much still under consideration.

Jefte, himself an attack-minded full-back who prides himself on his ‘skill and creativity’, is on loan at APOEL Nicosia from Brazilian powerhouses Fluminense.

Chelsea and West Ham eye English full-back

“I want to become the best left-back in the world,” the self-confident Brown tells Het Laaste Nieuws before rattling off an array of attributes which could ‘make that possible’.

“God has blessed me with qualities, like my body and speed. I want to play in the Champions League and at the European Championships and World Cups. Those are my dreams.”

“I’m not going to drift (through my career). I never did that, thanks to my father. He has always emphasised that you have to work hard to achieve something. You can’t cheat hard work. I have the right mentality.”
