The Rangers linked Archie Brown has opened up on his ambitious plan to become the ‘best left-back in the world’ as the defender goes from strength to strength at Belgian outfit KAA Gent.

According to the Daily Mail, both Rangers and their Old Firm neighbours Celtic ran the rule over the Birmingham-born 21-year-old over the summer.

Archie Brown joined Gent in a £3.5 million deal from Lausanne Sport instead, however, but his impressive start to life at the Ghelamco Arena means he is unlikely to be absent from the gossip columns for long.

Especially with the one-time Derby County youngster making no secret of his desire to reach the very top of the game.

Rangers like English full-back Archie Brown

“I want to become the best left-back in the world,” the confident Brown tells Het Laaste Nieuws before rattling off an array of attributes which could ‘make that possible’.

“God has blessed me with qualities, like my body and speed. I want to play in the Champions League and at the European Championships and World Cups. Those are my dreams.”

“I’m not going to drift (through my career). I never did that, thanks to my father. He has always emphasised that you have to work hard to achieve something. You can’t cheat hard work. I have the right mentality.”

The choice of Gent, Brown adds, was driven by the club’s impressive track record when it comes to developing exciting youngsters, Bryan Ruiz, Moses Simon, Roman Yaremchuk and Lille striker Jonathan David among those who made their name with the Buffalos.

A Borna Barisic replacement?

The prospect of Rangers renewing their interest in the New Year, meanwhile, will largely depend on what the future holds for Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic.

Barisic’s Ibrox contract expires next summer. Yilmaz’s camp, meanwhile, appear less than impressed with his lack of game time in Glasgow, a return to Turkey reportedly on the cards.
