Former Rangers attacker Sone Aluko will be playing alongside another former bear in George Edmundson after he signed for Ipswich Town last night.

The 32-year-old Nigerian forward has joined the Tractor Boys on a free after his contract expired with Reading.

Aluko has penned a one-year deal at Portman Road to make him the club’s 12th summer signing as they rebuild a squad ahead of their English League One charge.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of this project. I’m very excited,” said Sone [Ipswich Town FC].

“I’ve been fortunate enough to get promoted with other teams in my career, and I want to contribute to this team now.”

The attacker will join former Ibrox defender George Edmundson at Ipswich Town, the former Ibrox star also part of Paul Cook’s summer revamp.

Edmundson joined the League One side for an “undisclosed” fee which had been reported to be in the region of £1m [Daily Record].

Former Nigerian international winger Aluko had a spell at Ibrox in 2011/12 and despite the tumult of the season, stood as a key performer.

Aluko netted 12 times in only 23 appearances, also making five assists in an impressive six or seven months in Glasgow.

The player’s stand-out moment was that mazy run against Old Firm rivals Celtic in 2012 which helped the Gers to a 3-2 victory and denied our rivals the chance to win the title at Ibrox Stadium.

Aluko has also had spells with Birmingham City, Aberdeen, Blackpool, Hull City, Fulham, Reading and Beijing Renhe.

Speaking of George Edmundson, Rangers fans have been sending their best to the big defender after he left the Ibrox side.
