As Rangers are linked with transfer moves for left-backs Thierry Small and Archie Brown, it all sounds pretty ominous for Borna Barisic.
The Croatian left-back, 30, has been Rangers’ number one choice in the position for the bulk of his time at the club, having joined from NK Osijek in 2018.

But after 200 games – and with Ridvan Yilmaz enjoying a run in the side – it appears the Borna Barisic is under threat of losing his place in the starting XI.
It’s not without good reason either; while the Croat has a deadly left-foot and a superb cross, there’s a feeling that the player doesn’t provide the athletic balance to James Tavernier on the other side of the pitch.
There have also been huge dips in Barisic’s mentality over the years, which have cost the club big. Perhaps, as the squad evolves, so should this position.

That is despite the fact that the left-back – who hired an outside physio this season – has been one of the club’s more consistent players in a woeful campaign.
Borna Barisic’s Rangers status under threat by transfer reports
With Rangers signing a £3.4m rising to £5m deal for Ridvan Yilmaz last summer, it’s time for the Turkish international to start making the berth his own. Even if a return to Turkey has been mooted in the press.
While most Rangers fans might suspect Barisic would move into the background at Ibrox, the latest transfer links suggest the defender might actually be moved on this summer.
Rangers have been linked with a move for Southampton full-back Thierry Small ahead of the summer window, with the teenage left-back potential back-up to Yilmaz.
There have also been reports linking Rangers and Celtic with a move for Lausanne left-back Archie Brown [Scottish Daily Mail] in news which points to a shake-up in the position.
With Yilmaz now very much first choice in the position, it would suggest that a transfer switch for Barisic could be on the cards ahead of a busy window.
