Scottish club fans delighted after 'cracking' Rangers player signs on loan

Partick Thistle fans are delighted after their club snapped up impressive young Rangers player Lewis Mayo on a season-long loan deal [Ptfc.co.uk].

Mayo has been at Rangers for over a decade and signed a contract extension until 2023 last summer.

He then spent the entirety of the 2020/21 season on loan at Dunfermline Athletic, where he played centre-back, right-back and defensive midfield, making 26 appearances.

The 21-year-old featured for Rangers in pre-season, starting the 1-0 win over Thistle, and now he returns to Firhill for the 2021/22 campaign, although the Gers have the option to recall him in January.

Mayo’s first-ever loan stint was with the Jags early last year but he made just three appearances before the experience was cut short by the pandemic.

“It was tough the way things ended when I was last here but I’m delighted to be back and I’m looking forward to it,” he said [Glasgow Times]. “Personally, even though it was only three games, I took a lot of experience from that and I appreciated the chance to come and play first-team football. I’m looking to build on that.”

“In my previous spell here I settled in really quickly so I know that I’ll settle in fine and I’m looking forward to the football starting.”

The Jags’ Championship campaign gets underway on Saturday with a home game against Queen of the South and Mayo will be available to feature.

Thistle fans are delighted with the signing and rejoiced on social media following the announcement.

Mayo may not be the only player Ian McCall brings in from Rangers in this window, as he’s been credited with interest in another Ibrox man.
