Rangers-linked midfielder Ryan Gauld has “verbally agreed” to join MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps after leaving Portuguese club Sporting Clube Farense.
That’s according to journalist Barry Anderson who claims the 25-year-old will sign a three-year deal worth £1m per season.
This comes after the midfielder was released by SC Farense after the club’s relegation from the Primeira Liga ensured a contract extension couldn’t be invoked.
Despite the relegation, Gauld was a stand-out performer for Farense last season, netting nine goals and laying on seven assists in 34 appearances.
Joining Sporting Lisbon as a teenager from Dundee United in 2014, Gauld was dubbed “mini Messi” due to his dribbling his abilities.
His time in Portugal has also made him a cult figure for some Scottish football fans and journalists, who were determined to see him at Euro 2020.
Gauld would eventually miss out on a slot in Steve Clarke’s team.
The midfielder has been routinely linked to Ibrox throughout his career with the first links first appearing in 2018 via the Scottish Sun during the player’s time at Sporting Lisbon.
Vital Rangers then reported sources close to the player suggesting he’d be open to an Ibrox move as early as April.

However, there has been no official suggestion the Gers could pounce and for all intents and purposes, our midfield sights appear to be set elsewhere.
But could the signing of a defender help alleviate homesickness worries that revolve around a £7m playmaker being linked with Ibrox?
