Rangers have reportedly launched a move for Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman despite claims earlier in the window that the potential for homesickness meant the Dutch star is likely stay in the Netherlands.
The Gers were linked to the player alongside the likes of Atalanta, PSV and Ajax, with the latter two clubs cited as the obvious destinations.

“I can imagine that Veerman is an interesting player for PSV. Joey Veerman just has to stay in the Netherlands,” said Dutch journalist Valentijn Driessen [Voetbal Zone].
“He is very homesick. That is one of the reasons why he is never selected for the national side.
“He has played once for the Netherland Under 21s. After that, they didn’t need to select him because he had other things on his mind during the international weeks.”
But as the door to a move within the Netherlands appeared to close Veerman himself opened up to a move abroad.
There is talk of interest from Serie A outfit Hellas Verona – indeed a Dutch newspaper claims they’ve bid €1m more the player – with a move out of the country now Veerman’s most likely route out of Heerenveen.
But could Rangers interest in another young Dutch star help cushion the threat of any homesickness on the part of Veerman?
Danilho Doekhi is another name who has been extensively linked to Rangers throughout the transfer window.
The defender was linked by Football Insider – who rated the player at £1.5m – and the Telegraph at the beginning of the window and the links have persisted ever since.
Suggesting he’s open to a potential Ibrox move when pressed on the subject, Doekhi could well provide a familiarity to Veerman whilst adding potential and quality to the Ibrox squad.

“I can’t do anything with it now,” he responded when asked about the reported interest from the Light Blues [Daily Record].
“All my business runs through my manager, but if something is serious, I will seriously think about it.”
Rangers have been most recently linked to Veerman by the Glasgow Times, who claim the Gers could bid £7m for the midfielder.
Whilst Doekhi might help ease any fears regarding Veerman’s integration to life in Scotland, what would his signing mean for one key player who could leave the club for free?
