If Michael Beale is willing to soften his stance on loan players, Rodrigo Riquelme is one that should be on the Rangers manager’s list.
The 23-year old playmaker is currently with Spain’s Under-21 side – yes, you read that right – at the European Championships but his future at Atletico Madrid remains unclear.
Previously linked when Steven Gerrard was manager, Rodrigo Riquelme could well be on Rangers watchlist this summer.

Speaking to Cadena SER, the mercurial winger still harbours ambitions of one day starring for his boyhood club, however, Diego Simeone is not known for playing lightweight wingers amid uncertainty over his future.
“At the moment I don’t know anything, I haven’t asked either because I don’t want to be distracted. I haven’t spoken to my agents, or to my father or anything. I’m focused on being here, and then we’ll see.”
“It’s where I want to be. It’s my home and it’s where I grew up. Whatever has to be, will be. I’ll no doubt start with them, and as the days go by and things arise, we’ll see.”
Rodrigo Riquelme has seen three loan spells since tormenting Nathan Patterson in the UEFA Youth League, it was no wonder that Steven Gerrard was interested in bringing him to Rangers.
The diminutive attacking midfielder, who had a £27m release clause, was a constant thorn in Rangers side and was a standout between the players on display.
At the time, Riquelme’s contract was due to expire, however, he signed a long-term extension with the hopes of impressing at Los Colchoneros.
Rodrigo Riquelme could be the right fit for Rangers who still need a replacement for Ryan Kent.
Like Malik Tillman, loans should only be entertained if they are first-team ready and could make an immediate impact – Riquelme fits that profile.
