Rangers might not yet have a new manager in situ but there is already plenty of talk about players coming into the club this summer.
The Gers are on the verge of a US takeover which promises ‘substantial’ investment at Ibrox with the club also stepping up their hunt for the next Rangers manager.
But if the latest reports coming out of the Netherlands were to be believed, talk of Jordan Henderson moving to Rangers has some substance.
Jordan Henderson wanted by Rangers and Sunderland?
Whilst Davide Ancelotti has set his eyes on the Rangers gig, there is still a chance that Steven Gerrard receives the call from the Ibrox boardroom.
The former Rangers manager has been strongly linked with the job, with legendary broadcaster Jim White suggesting Gerrard could form a backroom staff with Steven Davis and Jordan Henderson.
Former Liverpool and England captain Henderson, 34, is currently plying his trade with Ajax and there is much discussion over the midfielder’s future in the Netherlands.
Mike Verweij claims that Henderson is now increasingly likely to leave Ajax following the departure of young coach Francesco Farioli at the end of the season.
In comments on Voetbal Zone, Verweij cites those Rangers links to Henderson and also suggests Premier League bound Sunderland are also interested.
”He is also being linked to Rangers,” said Verweij. “Steven Gerrard is said to be the new manager there and he would like to bring Henderson over there.
”But Sunderland is his old club and of course he was not in the stands for nothing.
“Ajax wants to get rid of his salary, that is one of the conflicts between the Ajax management and Francesco Farioli. Farioli really wanted to keep him, Ajax wanted to get rid of his salary.
“I think now that Farioli is gone, that Henderson also wants to leave. He felt a lot of confidence. I think the road to one of those two clubs is open.”
£3.9m stumbling block in Jordan Henderson Rangers deal
Whilst the Jordan Henderson links to Rangers certainly make for good headlines, something tells us a move is a tad ambitious.
It’s suggested the Ajax hierarchy are desperate to get the ex-Black Cat midfielder’s £75k per week salary, or £3.9m per year off the club’s wage bill.
With Henderson still seeing himself capable of contributing as a player, that’s a sizeable chunk of change at Ibrox and there would be serious questions over this use of funds.
It also smacks in the face of everything Rangers have been trying to do over the last two transfer windows.
With Steven Gerrard also the outsider to take charge at Rangers, a deal for Henderson looks a non-starter.
