Reported summer Rangers target and FC Midtjylland playmaker Evander is reportedly set for a record-breaking move to the MLS and Portland Timbers.

That’s according to US football journalist Tom Bogert, who claims that the American side could break their transfer record to bring the 24-year-old Brazilian stateside.

Given that the most Portland Timbers once paid up to a reported $12m (at the time around £9m) [MLS Soccer] for Argentine forward Brian Fernandez in 2019, the suggestion of a record fee means the Evander deal could dwarf this.

That means that should Evander actuality move to the MLS for over £9m, it could give an insight into why reported Rangers interest failed in the summer.

Back in that wonderful limbo period between Champions League qualification and the end of the transfer window, Rangers fans everywhere were dreaming of a big money move ahead of the new campaign.

The club had just raked in millions from the exits of Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo, whilst the Europa League Final run and Champions League qualification were reportedly a huge boost to the coffers.

But whilst all of this excitement was short-lived and misplaced – Rangers not actually moving for anyone after qualifying for the Champions League – there was time when Evander was top of the wish list.

The talented Brazilian star has an impressive record in Denmark – netting 50 goals and laying on 38 assists in 165 appearances for the side – and was the kind of move the club’s fans felt could bolster their Champions League campaign.

Extensively linked in the media, for whatever reason Rangers didn’t complete a deal for Evander but the situation with the Portland Timbers gives an inclination into why.

If the transfer of Evander to the MLS is to top £9m, then it would appears Rangers could’ve been priced out of a move in the summer with the Brazilian contract to FC Midtjylland until 2025.

Meanwhile, one Premier League club has been showing Rangers what they’re missing with a message on social media.
