Diehard Rangers fan and Sheffield United striker Oliver McBurnie has admitted he wants to sign a new contract at Bramall Lane amid a resurgent run of form.

The Scotland international striker has had a difficult few seasons but already has nine goals in this Championship campaign as he enters the final year of his contract.

Joining the Blades on a reported £20m deal from Swansea City back in 2018, McBurnie is in the final year of a four-year deal and it has had plenty asking the Rangers question.

Never shy to nail his Ibrox colours to the mast, there’s been a suggestion his Rangers loyalty has won him few fans in the Tartan Army but it has done little to dampen his support of the Gers.

Whilst there hasn’t been anything substantial in the way of official links, the player’s contract situation at Sheffield United has had plenty putting McBurnie up as a suggestion for Rangers.

A bluenose international who has always been highly-rated and only a few years ago commanded a high transfer fee, Rangers could also be set to lose the likes of Alfredo Morelos next season in similar circumstances.

But whilst plenty are musing over the idea of Oliver McBurnie joining the ranks of Rangers, the player himself appeared to put the brakes on any Sheffield United exit by admitting he wants to sign a new contract at the club.

“I’d love to [extend my contract],” said Oliver McBurnie [The Star].

“It’s such a big club, I’m really enjoying playing football here and hopefully if we can get to where we want to be this year, then why not?

“It really does [feel like home]. I had the conversation with my missus the other day, I’m really enjoying it.

“The fans are great with me, I love the boys and I love the coaching staff. I do really feel settled and I think that’s one thing for me; when I am settled you do see the best side of me.

“And I feel like now, this year in particular, that this is home for me and I do feel real comfortable here. And that does bring the best out of me in terms of football.”

Anything can happen of course and Sheffield United will still be nervous about the future of Oliver McBurnie, but for for now that Rangers talk seems a long way away.

Meanwhile, there appears to be more to a £9.5m Rangers drama than initially meets the eye.
