Rangers have no intention of selling goalkeeper Jack Butland amid rumoured interest from Wayne Rooney and Birmingham City.

Rangers haven’t really seen much success out of Michael Beale’s summer signings so far.

Danilo and Cyriel Dessers are yet to get going whilst Jose Cifuentes has underwhelmed since arriving from LAFC.

Dujon Sterling and Leon Balogun were primarily depth signings whilst we just haven’t seen enough of Kieran Dowell yet.

Abdallah Sima has at least chipped in of late, but most Rangers fans would accept that Jack Butland has been the only summer addition to really shine.

Birmingham City interested in signing Jack Butland

Butland has been outstanding between the sticks for Rangers this season, proving himself to be a worthy replacement for Allan McGregor.

The 30-year-old has now been so impressive that he is now thought to be attracting transfer interest.

The Sun reported over the weekend that Wayne Rooney wants to take Butland to Birmingham City.

Rooney recently became Birmingham boss having left MLS side D.C. United, and he seemingly wants to take Butland back to England.

Rooney and Butland know each other from the English national team setup and a Birmingham reunion was mentioned as one of Rooney’s first transfer targets.

Rangers stand firm on Butland future

We suggested when the rumours emerged that Butland leaving Rangers just didn’t make any sense – especially for Birmingham.

Well, TEAMtalk now claim that Rangers have ‘zero interest’ in letting Butland leave Ibrox any time soon.

The report claims that Rangers would need to receive a ‘sensational offer’ in order to even think about selling Butland.

Birmingham surely won’t be in a position to make Rangers an irresistible bid, even with new American owners and Tom Brady involved.

Butland looks set to stick around at Ibrox for a while yet – and we can only hope that he keeps up his great start to the season.
