Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland is attracting interest from Birmingham City as Wayne Rooney eyes a reunion.
It’s fair to say that Michael Beale’s summer spending hasn’t really worked out so far.
Beale took the lead as Rangers brought in the likes of Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes over the summer.
Rangers haven’t really seen the best of those players just yet, but there has been one shining light from the summer arrivals.
Goalkeeper Jack Butland has been one of the few Rangers players to impress this season – and he is now attracting interest.
Jack Butland wanted by Birmingham City
The Sun now report that Butland is wanted by Birmingham City with Wayne Rooney keen on a deal.
Rooney has become Birmingham’s new boss as the club’s American owners decided to axe John Eustace.
Rooney allegedly wants to sign a goalkeeper and is keen to bring Butland back to St Andrew’s.
Butland and Rooney know each other from the England setup and the new Birmingham boss is seemingly eyeing an ambitious move.
The Blues are keen to move high-earning goalkeeper Neil Etheridge but Rangers will of course demand a fee for summer signing Butland.

Butland surely won’t leave Rangers
Butland has history with Birmingham having joined their ranks way back in 2007, eventually emerging as a top young talent in their first team.
Butland joined Stoke City in 2013 but went back on loan to Birmingham, so there is an emotional pull there.
A move back to Birmingham may appeal down the line but surely won’t be happening any time soon.
Butland has long wanted the security of being a number one stopper and has finally found it with Rangers.
Rangers wouldn’t want to let Butland go just months after signing him and would surely be in a position to price Birmingham out of any deal.
This move just doesn’t make sense for Rangers or Butland right now and we can’t see Rooney getting his way with a January or even summer move in 2024.
