There have been doubts about whether Alegria would be able to obtain a work permit due to changes in regulations brought about by Brexit, but the player himself has previously claimed that a deal was close [Scottish Sun] and speculation ramped up again on Thursday morning after he posted to his Instagram story.

The striker posted a photo from a citizenM hotel opposite Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport and outlets such as the Daily Record and the Scottish Sun ran pieces speculating that he could be on his way to Glasgow, with a flight scheduled for later in the afternoon.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

However, in a follow-up piece, the Scottish Sun has reported that the player isn’t travelling to Scotland.

The news doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t be signing for Rangers, but it does appear that supporters will at least have a little longer to wait before a deal is announced.

18-year-old Alegria currently plays for FC Honka in the Finnish Veikkausliiga and is very inexperienced at senior level.

He’s impressed in youth international football, though, and Gers supporters were particularly excited when footage emerged of him scoring five times for Colombia U17s in a fixture against the Czech Republic.

Rangers are already well-stocked at the top end of the pitch, with Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe, Cedric Itten and Jermain Defoe all capable of playing as a central striker.

Therefore, if Alegria does join the club this month, he’s likely to initially join up with the B team squad.

The teenager isn’t the only exciting young player the Gers are reportedly interested in, though, and the agent of an emerging talent has urged the club to take a six-figure ‘gamble’ on his client before English clubs swoop.
