A Courrier Picard report has suggested there could be a possible twist to the seemingly imminent deal which will bring Bongani Zungu to Rangers from Amiens.

Across deadline day, various sources including L’Equipe and Paul Joyce of the Times, have suggested that a transfer is close.

South African journalist, Lorenz Kohler, also tweeted earlier this afternoon claiming that personal terms had been agreed.

He suggested that although the player would move initially on loan, he would be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement in a few months time.

However, French outlet Courrier Picard have claimed that while Zungu is close to joining the Gers on loan, he will actually sign a contract extension at Amiens before his departure.

If that turns out to be the case, it would suggest that Rangers either only plan on bringing the South Africa international in for the remainder of the 2020/21 season or have accepted that they will have to pay full whack next summer to sign him permanently.

This idea that the French club would only accept a loan if the player first signed an extension, was mentioned by South African outlet Kickoff in September, but it hasn’t featured in any of the other deadline day reports.

Whatever the terms, it does now look like a deal is getting close to completion with just hours remaining in the window.

RMC Sport journalist, Loic Tanzi, tweeted at 5:30pm, asserting that a loan transfer was imminent.

Steven Gerrard has been looking for a new midfielder all summer and it appears that he’s about to get his wish.

Zungu missed much of pre-season and the opening few matches of Amiens’ Ligue 2 campaign but played 82 minutes of their defeat to Caen at the weekend.
