Morecambe attacker Carlos Mendes Gomes has broken his silence on rumours linking him with a move to Rangers this summer [Daily Record].
Back in April, the Scottish Sun reported that the Gers had made contact with Morecambe regarding Mendes Gomes, whose contract will soon expire.

It was asserted that Rangers scouts had watched him on a number of occasions as he produced impressive displays and numbers in EFL League Two.
The 22-year-old, who spent time in the Atletico Madrid setup as a youngster, netted 15 goals and notched three assists in 43 regular season appearances, before scoring the goal that clinched promotion for the Shrimps in their 1-0 playoff final win over Newport County on Monday.
With the dust now settled on a dramatic end to the season, the pacy winger has spoken out about the Light Blues’ reported interest.
“The Rangers thing is a rumour,” he said [Daily Record]. “And at the moment, it is just that, a rumour.”
“Morecambe have just given me the happiest day of my career. That day at Wembley will be something I will be able to tell my grandchildren.”
The Dakar-born player then went on to discuss his tough journey from the ninth tier of English football with West Didsbury and Chorlton to the League Two playoff final.

At this stage, it certainly sounds like no direct contact has been made with Mendes Gomes and it’s hard to say how concrete Rangers’ interest is.
The Shrimps star is very much unproven at any level above the English fourth tier and some Bears will feel it’s too low a standard at which to be scouting players, especially given the club’s ambitions in Europe for next season.
However, he was a standout performer in his division across the 2020/21 campaign and as he’s only 22, he has the potential to grow considerably as a player.
In other news, Rangers are reportedly locked in a bidding war with four other clubs for the fastest player in a European top-flight league.
