Rangers winger Brandon Barker has agreed to join EFL League One club Oxford United on loan, according to a Daily Record report.
Barker has made 13 appearances for the Gers this season and hasn’t been linked with a move away from Ibrox during the winter window.
After Jordan Jones joined Sunderland on loan last week, it looked unlikely that any more wide players would leave the club.
However, with a deal for Scott Wright now reportedly agreed [Daily Record], it seems Steven Gerrard doesn’t see Barker featuring for the club over the coming months.
The Glasgow Times reported on Monday afternoon that Oxford boss Karl Robinson was keen on the 24-year-old former Manchester City academy starlet and the Daily Record have since reported that a loan deal has been agreed.
The move hasn’t officially been announced yet, but it looks to be a case of when rather than if.
A switch to the Us wouldn’t necessarily mark the end of the pacy winger’s Ibrox career, given that he’s contracted until 2022.
However, as Greg Docherty and Jamie Murphy know all too well, even strong performances in the third tier of English football are unlikely to be enough to convince Steven Gerrard that you are worthy of a spot in his best XI.
Since joining Rangers in the summer of 2019, Barker has made 26 appearances, scoring three goals.
Meanwhile, Rangers’ rivals Aberdeen are reportedly close to signing a mercurial player Steven Gerrard opted against buying in the summer.
