Kai Kennedy is still missing from Rangers pre-season but fans of SPFL Championship club Dunfermline think he’s heading there on loan.

Kennedy signed a contract extension at Ibrox in January following a stint at Inverness Caley Thistle and prior to joining Raith Rovers for the second half of the season.

The tricky young winger showed glimpses of brilliance at both Championship clubs and some supporters were looking forward to seeing him in action for Rangers during pre-season.

However, instead, the likes of Glenn Middleton and Jordan Jones have received playing time and Kennedy has been nowhere to be seen.

The Scotland youth international didn’t make the matchday squads for the two friendlies against Partick Thistle and Tranmere and doesn’t appear to have been taking part in training.

The Daily Record reported last month that he was a loan target for both Partick Thistle and Dunfermline, with Rangers expected to sanction a move to one of the two second-tier clubs.

There have been no further developments since then either officially or in the press, but Pars fans have suggested on social media in recent days that an East End Park announcement is imminent.

Even if a loan exit is imminent, it’s surprising that Kennedy hasn’t featured in the early stages of pre-season as Ben Williamson did before sealing a switch to Livingston.

However, it’s possible that he’s been injured and simply hasn’t been able to take part in sessions or matches.

After two Championship loans last season, a step up to the Premiership would probably be the ideal result here, but at the same time, the Gers starlet is still only 19 and he’s more likely to play week in week out in the second tier.

His pace and creativity would make him a great addition for the Pars and Gers supporters will be hoping that strong performances there will put him in a position to return to Ibrox for 2022/23 to add to his solitary first-team appearance.

In terms of incomings at Ibrox, a report has claimed the number of further ‘senior’ signings fans can expect this summer.
