The Scottish Sun reports that Rangers will not be making a bid for Moussa Konate.

The 26-year-old Senegalese international striker boasts the likes of Maccabi Tel Aviv and Serie A side Genoa amongst his former clubs and has been at Amiens for two seasons.

A Premium Courier report suggested on Sunday that the Gers were preparing a swoop, with L’Equipe then claiming the club would submit a bid of close to €10 million.

Plenty of Rangers fans shut down the latter report, deeming it fanciful that the club would sanction a deal involving that much money.

Now, it seems they were right to be sceptical.

Rangers will not bid for Konate

The Scottish Sun report says Steven Gerrard has distanced himself from any potential bid and that the club will not be entering the race for the player’s services.

Therefore, it looks as though the 31-cap international wasn’t one of the players Gerrard watched tapes of late last week. Or, if he was, there wasn’t enough there to impress.

The Gers manager had admitted that he and his staff viewed footage of several players as potential contingencies after last Thursday’s trip to Warsaw, in case Alfredo Morelos was sold during the final days of the window [Scottish Sun].

Yet, it seems we’re no closer to knowing who was being mulled over.

Encouragingly, though, there have been no fresh reports of big-budget clubs looking to swoop for Morelos. With the 2nd September deadline fast approaching, hopefully, there’ll be no need to splash out on a new marksman after all.
