On Sunday afternoon, a report emerged linking Rangers with Amiens striker Moussa Konate.
The 26-year-old is well-travelled at club level turning out in multiple different countries for the likes of Genoa and Maccabi Tel Aviv.
The Premium Courier report claimed that the Gers were interested, and had made contact with the player. It was then suggested that amid interest from several different clubs, Konate would use the coming days to weigh up his next move.
That report was then supplemented by a L’Equipe piece, which outlandishly claims the Gers would be willing to part with almost €10 million to bring the Senegal international to Ibrox.
Given that Rangers’ biggest transfer fee in recent times is £3.5m for Filip Helander, a near eight-figure bid would represent a massive leap. Even if, as is being suggested, Konate would be replacing an allegedly exit-bound Alfredo Morelos.
If Rangers were going to splash out a huge portion of any fee received for Morelos, surely it would need to go on a proven prolific goalscorer? Is this really who Gerrard was watching clips of?
Konate clearly has a goal in him, but based on his career stats, he’s not even close to being a 20-goal per season player. Last season he only netted seven times in the league for Amiens.
Rangers fans rubbish report suggesting imminent €10 million bid
It’s safe to say Bears simply aren’t buying this one. When social media account Rangers Culture shared L’Equipe’s story on Twitter, plenty of fans called it out as false.
Here’s a selection of reactions:
Yes that’s exactly what we’ve done when we can’t afford 6million for kent 😂😂
