The Daily Record reports that Rangers are set to take Paul Gascoigne’s nephew, Cameron Gascoigne, on trial.

Much to the delight of Rangers fans, players and staff, Gazza paid a visit to the Hummel Training Centre on Saturday and will take in today’s fixture against Hamilton as a special guest at Ibrox.

The England legend played for the Gers between 1995 and 1998, winning four major trophies in a storied stint.

Now, Cameron, who was formerly a part of the Newcastle United Academy, is being offered the chance to follow in his uncle’s footsteps.

The 18-year-old striker will reportedly travel to Glasgow next week and will be assessed over a short while at Auchenhowie.

It’s claimed his ‘prolific’ scoring feats at youth level have prompted the trial, but that several English clubs are also interested in the teenager’s signature.

Exciting times for the Gascoigne’s then and it will be interesting to see how this one develops.

The Gers are constantly trying to improve the quality of player in the club’s academy, hence the signings of Nathan Young-Coombes and Kane Ritchie-Hosler from Chelsea and Manchester City in recent times.

It doesn’t work out for everyone, though. Yanis Bensaber, who scored in a trial match against Corby Town back in May, failed to earn a deal and has recently signed for a French fourth-tier club.
