Rangers needed to bring extra firepower to the club and Philippe Clement will be over the moon at his latest acquisition.
Hamza Igamane has been announced and will be strutting his stuff at Ibrox after Nils Koppen cast the recruitment net wider than we have seen for some time.
The Morocco youth international has a promising future and Rangers have changed tact this summer looking for players on an upward trajectory rather than trying to fix those that showed potential in the past only to lose their way.
It’s a policy that won’t always be successful, but the plan will be to see more successes like Alfredo Morelos.

Philippe Clement delighted to bring Hamza Igamane to Rangers
Speaking to Rangers media team, it’s clear that Philippe Clement is looking forward to working with Igamane:
“I am delighted to welcome Hamza to Rangers and we believe he will be a great asset to our squad. He has a lot of talent and potential and he will bring a fresh presence to our attacking options.
“We know it will be a big change in culture and a new country for Hamza to adapt to, but as a club we will support him on and off the pitch to settle in here.”
Nils Koppen commented: “I would like to welcome Hamza to Scotland and to Rangers and I am thrilled he will be joining our squad.
“He is an exciting young talent, who has already shown his energy, skill and determination during his time in Morocco and at international level. I look forward to seeing him develop further in our club”.
Igamane has the chance to follow in the footsteps of Morelos
One of the biggest problems last season was a shortage of options and fresh legs in the forward line.
Rangers teams that won league titles in the past always had a group of strikers that they could rely on, not just one or two – at times last season, Clement didn’t even have that.
Igamane will have time to settle with Danilo as first choice and either Cyriel Dessers, or his replacement, having greater expectations on their shoulders.
The good thing is, Igamane is arriving at the beginning of pre-season training and should be up to speed for when competitive games start, he will also get to play with his new teammates in friendlies too.
Rangers took the decision to block Morocco from picking their new striker for the Olympics and, given that the Champions League qualifiers are on that the same time, it’s not a surprise.
Similar to when Morelos arrived at Rangers, there was hope rather than any real demand for him to be an immediate success.
As with players like Rod Wallace, Jonatan Johansson or Peter Lovenkrands in the past, it’s sometimes the unheralded players that make the biggest impact.
