Rangers defender Leon King has spent the 2025/26 season out on loan at Ayr United.
The centre-back has put in an impressive shift at the Scottish Championship outfit and has been a first-team regular for them.
King has played 33 games in all competitions for United and has been pivotal in their fight against relegation this season.
Will Rangers sack Danny Rohl if they fail to win the league?
If he goes, who would be a good replacement for him?
Ayr United make contract offer to Leon King
Via their official website, Ayr United confirmed that they had made a contract offer to King to stay beyond the end of the season.
The Scotsman is out of contract at Ibrox this summer, which means that he can leave on a free transfer in the coming months.
Much like Rangers loanee Paul Nsio, King also won four end-of-season awards at his loan club.
The defender clinched the Men’s Player of the Year, Supporters’ Player of the Year, Men’s Players’ Player of the Year, and Young Player of the Year, in what has been a standout campaign for him.
That is why it comes as little surprise that they want to retain his services and sign him permanently come the end of June.
However, there are likely to be other clubs willing to offer him a fresh start as well, so he could mull over his decision.
A four-man shortlist has been drawn up to replace James Tavernier…

King likely to seal Rangers exit after recent comments
King revealed that, as he’s going to be out of contract soon, he will be considering his options.
Even before he was offered a new deal by Ayr United, he admitted that he is not closing the door on returning to the second-tier club.
However, he made it clear that he wants to be playing regularly, and that is not something he is going to get at Ibrox.

King said: “This is what I needed: to go out and play consistently this season.
“The constant challenge of having to earn a spot in the team each week has been massive for me.”
“I’m without a contract now, so we’ll see what my future holds.
“But I’m definitely not shutting the door on staying here. I’ve loved it.”
Even if the Light Blues offer him a new contract and better wages than United, he is expected to turn it down for regular game time.
This means that Rangers could announce his departure in the coming weeks, as it is highly unlikely that King is on their books come 1 July.
The Gers will look at other centre-backs as it is going to be a defensive overhaul for them this summer.
