Rangers will soon complete their first transfer signing of the January window, with exciting player James Sands preparing to fly to Glasgow, according to the Scottish Sun.

The Gers were first credited with interest in New York City FC star Sands late last month by Tutto Mercato and the links have been gathering momentum in recent days.

Rangers close to landing James Sands

Fan media outlets with close ties to the club, Heart & Hand and Four Lads Had a Dream, both asserted earlier this week that Rangers’ interest is legitimate.

And after a Daily Mail report on Monday evening asserted that talks were underway and progressing well, Sky Sports claimed that the Gers were closing in.

Then, on Tuesday evening, the Scottish Sun claimed that the deal itself – an 18-month loan with an option to buy – is done.

They also claim that Sands is preparing to fly to Glasgow and could touch down within next 48 hours before signing his contract.

Efficient and exciting business from Wilson

It looks like the Gers are going to have a first new arrival confirmed just a few days into the transfer window and while Sands won’t technically be a Rangers player, the terms of this deal suit the club.

Following the departure of Nathan Patterson for a club-record fee, a versatile young player with international experience is coming in to immediately bolster the squad.

Sands could initially be used as a backup for James Tavernier, but he’s also able to play centre-back and in midfield, so it’s no surprise that Gio van Bronckhorst is on board with the swoop.

The last player Rangers signed from the MLS, Matt Polster, didn’t quite make the impact many hoped he would, but Sands’ ceiling is higher and fans will be hoping there are no last-minute hitches.

Meanwhile, a Rangers star has suggested that he will soon return to training following an injury absence.
