Former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may have tied Glen Kamara down on a longer-term contract before leaving for Aston Villa, but now it’s a “priority” to bring him to the Premier League.
That’s according to TEAMtalk, who claim that the Finnish international midfielder is top of Stevie G’s January wish list at the Birmingham club.
The links come after Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba was ruled out for at least three months with a knee issue, meaning Villa have a gap in their midfield that needs filled in January.
The injury – sustained on Gerrard’s 1-0 losing return to Anfield against Liverpool in the Premier League – has also ruled Nakamba out of the African Cup of Nations.
It’s not the first time Glen Kamara has been linked with the Villains – nor is the ex-Dundee star the first or last player to be linked to Villa Park since Gerrard made the switch – with the midfielder widely regarded as amongst the biggest assets in the Gers squad.
But after signing the new contract at Ibrox – which ties Glen Kamara to Rangers until 2025 – Aston Villa will be well aware they will need to stump up to secure the player’s signature.

Reports at the time of Kamara’s decision to sign the new deal suggested that there was an agreement that Rangers would deal with clubs down south at a fair price.
Ex-Arsenal Academy star Glen Kamara isn’t the only Rangers player being extensively linked with English Premier League clubs ahead of the transfer window either.
Close friend Joe Aribo is reportedly being tracked by a host of top clubs down south with Premier League Southampton the last name to be mentioned alongside the midfielder.
Rangers’ Croatian international full-back Borna Barisic has also been linked with a move to the English top flight, with Watford the side who’re said to be interested.
Meanwhile, before taking any transfers into account Rangers could have up to six players ruled out of the rearranged Old Firm derby with Celtic in February.
