A leading German football journalist has claimed that Bundesliga outfit Greuther Fürth have a €3.5m (£3m) option to buy on Rangers striker Cedric Itten.

There was some surprise regarding a deal to take Itten, 24, to Germany with the player struggling for gametime in a competitive forward line at Ibrox.

The striker will now head out to Germany in search of minutes with the Ibrox club retaining the right to recall Cedric in January [Rangers].

Whilst Rangers made no mention of any potential option-to-buy clause, this was touched on by the German side as they announced the deal.

“SPVGG GREUTHER FÜRTH has reached an agreement with Rangers FC and Cedric Itten on a loan with an option to buy,” reads a club statement.

Now, German Bundesliga journalist Shark Gutierrez has made claims regarding the finer details of the deal on Twitter following the announcement of the move.

“Greuther Fürth has also been active throughout the Deadline Day and has secured the loan of forward Cedric Itten from Rangers,” reads the tweet.

“It is an assignment with a purchase option of about €3.5 million.”

Following the move, Cedric Itten also took to Instagram to post an emotional message to Rangers supporters.

Joining in a reported £2.7m deal from FC St Gallen last season, Itten never really got the opportunity to play in front of the fans, even if he managed six goals for the club in a legendary campaign.

The striker – affectionately known as Ced the Ted – paid tribute to the fans and announced that 56 is “coming home” this season.

Cedric Itten might’ve moved on but it may well have some asking whether or not Rangers will look to replace him in the final few hours of the window.

One Scottish Premiership rival has rubbished reports that one of their biggest stars and a Rangers-linked forward is not set for a £5m move down south.
