Scottish Premiership rivals Hibs have rejected the suggestion that routinely Rangers-linked Kevin Nisbet is set for a £5m move down south.

Reports emerged across the media suggesting that Swansea had made a substantial offer for Scotland international Nisbet, 24, after a summer of exit links attached to the player.

However, before Rangers fans start rubbing their eyes in junior disbelief, talk of this bid has been quashed by Hibs themselves.

Sources close to the club have informed Not the Old Firm that talk of the offer is incorrect and Nisbet will – as things stand – be remaining at Easter Road.

The striker was being monitored by Rangers during his time at Dunfermline where the ex-Partick Thistle forward impressed by scoring 23 goals in 32 games during a special in the Scottish Championship [Glasgow Times].

However, it was Hibs who moved to sign the forward last season with reports suggesting the Edinburgh side spent around £250k on the striker.

Since then a range of clubs have been linked with a move for the player with Birmingham City, Rangers and Old Firm rivals Celtic routinely mentioned alongside Nisbet.

Even the likes of Russian Premier League outfits Krasnodar and Spartak Moscow have been mentioned.

As early ago as July, the Daily Record were suggesting that the Gers were ‘weighing up’ potentially interjecting a Celtic move for the striker.

Old Firm rivals Celtic have been more closely linked to the player in recent months – something which perhaps speaks volumes about the Gers’ strength up top – but whatever the case a move to Swansea does not yet beckon for the forward.

Rangers have however lost a striker on this deadline day as Cedric Itten moves on loan to Bundesliga outfit Greuther Fürth.

There has been no official suggestion that Rangers could look to fill the void left by the Swiss international but it’s a move which has caught many by surprise.

And according to one journalist, interest also remains in three key first team players as the Gers head into the final hours of the window.
