Premier League Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Rangers defender Borna Barisic amid a reported £110m spending spree.

According to the Daily Mail, Steve Cooper’s side have earmarked Rangers’ Croatian international as a potential left-back signing as they look to improve the position ahead of the new season.

But the report also claims that Borna Barisic, 29, isn’t the only left-sided defender Nottingham Forest are targeting amid their first Premier League campaign in 23 years.

Chelsea’s Italian international left-back Emerson Palmieri is another player who has been mooted as a potential solution to Forest’s issues in the position.

The news comes amid much speculation surrounding the future of Borna Barisic, who is finally beginning to regain his confidence and form amid a rocky start to the season.

Nottingham Forest linked to Rangers’ Borna Barisic

The Rangers left-back has seen his mentality brought into question this year after a downturn in form in the second half of the last campaign and early-window reports the club were open to moving the Croatian on.

But after the departure of Calvin Bassey to Ajax, Barisic is the clear number one in the left-back position with £5m capture from Besiktas Ridvan Yilmaz still to adapt to life in Scotland.

It means if Rangers were to move Borna Barisic on – with the likes of Turkish champions Trabzonspor also extensively linked – the club would likely need to move for a replacement.

The links to Nottingham Forest also come at a time when the club are going through an extensive recruitment drive with the Telegraph reporting that the club’s latest business has taken spending to around £110m.

This follows the £15m signing of Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis, a free transfer move for Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikou Kouyate and the £8m Atalanta’s Swiss international Remo Freuler over the weekend.

This takes the total number of players signed this summer to 15 with the club record £17.5m transfer of former Liverpool forward and Union Berlin striker Taiwo Awoniyi standing as the biggest outlay to date.
