Rangers star goads Celtic on social media amid links to Newcastle United

Rangers midfielder Alex Lowry has taken a swipe at salty Celtic after netting a penalty in the B team’s victory over their Parkhead counterparts.

The 19-year-old midfielder dropped down to the B Team to take part in an enthralling 2-2 draw in the City of Glasgow Cup semi-final which Rangers eventually won on penalties.

Taking to Twitter after the match, the attacking midfielder made mention of the “opposition” in a jibe aimed at Celtic after their salty reaction to losing the Scottish Cup semi-final at the weekend.

The Parkhead side took to Twitter to refer to Rangers as the “opposition” in a series of salty tweets as they came to terms with the chasing they got at Hampden.

It certainly added to the celebrations and now Alex Lowry has turned the screw by goading the Celtic Park club on Twitter.

The Alex Lowry tweet also comes at a time when fans are urging the club to sign the youngster down on a new contract.

Lowry’s current deal is about to enter its final year and after breaking through into the first-team this campaign, fans want to see Rangers tie the talented young star down.

Club media partners Heart & Hand have previously shot down claims the youngster has rejected a contract offer at Rangers as clubs down south reportedly begin to swirl.

Premier League Newcastle United are the latest to be linked with Football Insider claiming that the Magpies have held talks with the player’s representatives.

They claim the Toon are fronting the queue south of the border and that Lowry’s agent met Newcastle head of recruitment in a hotel earlier in April.

It’ll have some fans nervous regarding the player’s current situation but it’s clear the Scotland youth international gets it and is a Rangers supporter.

In total, Alex Lowry has made four appearances for the Rangers first team and he is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in the country.
