Rangers media partners Heart & Hand and specifically host David Edgar have moved to explain a cryptic social media post from Ibrox talent Alex Lowry.
Gers fans were convinced that the sharing of an egg-timer with a picture of the first team was a hint that the youngster was preparing to announce a new contract with the club.
This is after reports originating in Football Insider claimed that Rangers had offered Alex Lowry a bumper £5k-a-week three-year contract at the club.
With the 18-year-old’s current deal set to expire at the end of next season, this is something Rangers fans obviously want to hear.
But David Edgar has moved to quash these rumours and offer some clarity regarding the post on the youngster’s Instagram.
Alex Lowry social media message about Rangers return; not new contract
Alex Lowry has been nursing an unspecified injury over the last few weeks and the situation pertains instead to his imminent return to the Rangers first team, and not to an announcement over a new contract.
However, the Heart & Hand host is adamant that Rangers remain locked in talks with the youngster and his representatives.
“Alex Lowry put up a picture on his Instagram of him with the first team just after he scored against Stirling with a picture of an hourglass,” said Edgar on the platform’s Daily Update [12/11/22], available to Patreon subscribers.
“I had taken it to mean that he would be back soon from his injury so I got in touch with the club and they told me yeah, that is true.
“He is due back very soon from his injury and that was what he was referring to in that picture. He’s just counting down the days until he’s back in the first team.
“On his contract, you may have seen online a journalist called Pete O’Rourke, who is an independent, and has been speaking as if he knows Alex Lowry.
“That’s not true, he doesn’t have any contact with Lowry or his agents and anything he’s saying is just fishing.
“Rangers are in talks with Alex Lowry and his representatives. You might’ve seen erroneously that he had turned down a contract; he hasn’t, contract talks go on.
“There’s good hits on Rangers content but the guy’s got no connection at all to Rangers or to Alex Lowry and his agents so all of them are a bit perplexed as to why this guy’s out there leaking stuff that he’s made up.”
Rangers star Alex Lowry broke through into the Ibrox first team this season and has gone on to make four appearances for the club.
A stand-out for the Rangers B team, his teammates have also just been celebrating a major win over Old Firm rivals Celtic.
