Rangers star Borna Barisic given £20m valuation as January window nears

Rangers star Borna Barisic has been given a valuation of £20 million by former Gers player and current Cowdenbeath boss Gary Bollan, as the January window nears [Daily Record].

After a tricky first season at Ibrox following a reported £2.2m transfer from Osijek in the summer of 2018 [Sky Sports], Barisic has been a top performer for Steven Gerrard.

He and James Tavernier are crucial to the Gers’ style of play, with his marauding runs and superb deliveries from the left making him the standout left-back in the Premiership and one of the most dangerous in the Europa League.

The Croatia international’s qualities were on show at Falkirk on Sunday as he provided an assist and scored a superb free-kick, and Bollan believes he has the ability to thrive in the Premier League.

“If you’ve got the delivery he has, and the athleticism to get up and down the left flank like he does, then there’s no doubt that clubs in England will be looking at him,” he said [Daily Record]

“In England, a lot of clubs now play with their full-backs high up the pitch and if he went down there, he would be a success. I don’t doubt that for a minute.

“There’s no club in Scotland if they are offered £20m for players these days – and in today’s market that’s what you’d be looking at for a player like Barisic – that can refuse it.”

Rangers did well to hold onto all of their main assets in the summer, only selling fringe players like Matt Polster and Greg Docherty.

Yet, the strong performances of individuals over the opening months of the 2020/21 season make it likely that offers will come in for a number of players next month.

It’s certainly plausible that Barisic could command an eight-figure fee given his performances in European competition and at international level.

However, he’s vital to Rangers’ hopes of securing silverware and is under contract until 2024, so the club will be hoping to keep potential suitors at bay at least until the summer.
