Rangers left-back Borna Barisic has been named in the SPFL Team of the Week following his outstanding showing in Sunday’s League Cup win over Falkirk.
The Gers triumphed 4-0 in the Last 16 clash to set up a quarter-final tie against St Mirren in a fortnight.
Barisic would likely have been rested for the weekend fixture had the Gers been at full strength, but with backup left-back Calvin Bassey deployed at centre-back, he remained in the side.
The Croatia international has had trouble with artificial surfaces in the past but he was at his best at the Falkirk Stadium, contributing to yet another clean sheet and doing a lot of damage in the final third.
He played a part in the Calvin Bassey goal that put Rangers 2-0 up with an out-swinging corner and he assisted James Tavernier’s obligatory goal with a deep cross from the left flank early in the second half.
However, his finest act was scoring the visitors’ third goal with an inch-perfect free-kick from outside the area which found the top right corner.
After the game, Tavernier praised his teammate’s “wand of a left foot” [Premier Sports] and even though he was substituted in the 55th minute, his display was strong enough to secure him a spot in the SPFL Team of the Week.

Barisic was included at left wing-back in a 3-4-3 formation, with Elgin City striker Kane Hester named Star Man following his hat-trick in a 5-2 win over Cowdenbeath in League Two.
