Rangers signing imminent with player to ‘leave Holland for medical’

PAOK striker and former Rangers heartbreaker Antonio Colak is travelling to Scotland for a medical, according to a local Greek journalist.

The 28-year-old striker shattered Rangers’ Champions League dream with a double whilst on loan at Malmo last season and will now be signed to reinforce the club’s charge this campaign.

A powerful, mobile striker with an eye for goal, the forward certainly appears to be someone in the Giovanni van Bronckhorst mould and everything appears to suggest this deal is heading for completion.

That’s according to Georgios Sideridis – who works with Greek outlet Yellow Radio and has followed the deal closely – who believes the striker will leave PAOK’s Dutch training camp to travel to Scotland this week.

This backs up earlier reports that a deal between Rangers and Antonio Colak has already been agreed, with both parties just awaiting PAOK’s go ahead.

The delay relates to the Greek side needing to sign a striker replacement, with Fortuna Düsseldorf forward Khaled Narey reportedly earmarked [Sunday Post].

Rangers line up £1.8m Antonio Colak deal from PAOK

Sideridis also claims that the deal is worth €2m with add-ons, which matches up with reports in the UK claiming the deal is worth £1.8m [Sky Sports].

If the deal goes through – as it is seemingly expected – Antonio Colak would replace the outgoing Cedric Itten as the club’s 3rd striking option, with the Swiss international returning to his home country.

The reported £1.5m paid by BSC Young Boys to take Itten to Switzerland also means the Antonio Colak move represents a £300k outlay on a replacement.

The big Croatian will also be following in the footsteps of Ibrox giants Dado Prso and Nikica Jelavic if he joins the club, two hugely-popular former Croat Rangers strikers.

If Colak can go on to have a fraction of the impact these two guys had at Rangers he’ll be remembered fondly for the remainder of his life.

Croatians and Rangers just seem to go and Antonio Colak would be coming into a squad with countrymen Borna Barisic and Nikola Katic already in Glasgow.

Speaking of Nikola Katic, the big defender is back at Rangers and let’s hope, back in with a shout of following through on his promise of once again starring for the club.
