Rangers will beat off competition from France and England to secure the signing of Welsh international and Schalke 04 winger Rabbi Matondo, claims a report.
News broke last week that the Gers were closing in on a deal for Schalke winger Matondo, who scored 10 goals whilst on loan with Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge last season.
But despite interest from the Belgian club and elsewhere in Europe Rangers are closing in on a deal for the winger with only “formalities” set to be concluded.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim on page 70 of their 12th July edition that Rangers are set to conclude a £2.5m deal for the 21-year-old winger.
For fans itching to see the player in Light Blue before long, according to German football journalist Patrick Berger claims a move will be announced soon with Matondo passing a medical.
Whilst the clubs who are reportedly interested in Rabbi Matondo are not mentioned by the Daily Mail earlier reports have previously linked several clubs from both countries to the winger.
Both Lorient and Brest were linked by Loic Tanzi whilst Leeds United, Nottingham Forest and Brentford were also linked by the Sun.
Old Firm rivals Celtic were also extensively linked to Matondo the beginning of the transfer window with Rangers fans justifiably pleased their club appear to have beaten the Parkhead side to the signing.
There’s a reason why Schalke signed a deal to part with up to £11m to bring the kid to Germany as a teenager and Rangers will be hoping to unlock that potential at Ibrox.
Rangers closing in on Rabbi Matondo deal
The signing of Rabbi Matondo would follow earlier deals for John Souttar (pre-contract), Antonio Colak (£1.8m) and Tom Lawrence (free agent) and keep Rangers’ finances above board in terms of net spend this window.
Rangers have also sold Cedric Itten (BSC Young Boys, £1.5m) and Joe Aribo (Southampton, £6m rising to £10m) in this transfer window.

That means Rangers are actually £4.7m to £8.7m up this window but have bolstered their squad with international signings and most importantly, more goals.
Rangers might not be done with the signing of Rabbi Matondo either should the club manage to get the Welshman over the line.
That’s despite the latest reports suggesting the club has missed out on a reported major target with the Ibrox sights now set elsewhere in Europe.
