Rangers-linked midfielder ‘set for medical’ amid Bayern star reports

Rangers look set to be disappointed in their reported pursuit of Angers SCO midfielder Angelo Fulgini as the club reportedly set their sights on Bayern star Malik Tillman.

After a stuttering start to the transfer window the activity at Ibrox has sprung into life and the creative and ambitious approach by the club is turning heads.

Already adding three internationals in the shape of John Souttar, Antonio Colak and Tom Lawrence for a combined spend of £300k, more signings are expected to follow.

Welsh international and explosive Schalke winger Rabbi Matondo appears close to agreeing a deal whilst murmurs surrounding Angelo Fulgini and Malik Tillman continue in the press.

But now it appears that despite major excitement amongst Rangers fans amid links to former French U21 international Fulgini, the midfielder is set to move to Mainz.

According to BILD, a reliable source on all things German football, Angelo Fulgini is having a medical with the Bundesliga side and a move could be announced later today (Tuesday, 12th July).

According to the report, Mainz have beaten both Borussia Monchengladbach and Rangers to the 25-year-old’s signature with earlier reports suggesting Angers were holding out for £6m.

The midfielder is reportedly viewed as a successor to Dutch midfielder Jean-Paul Boetius, who is said to be interesting several clubs in the Bundesliga.

Even if Rangers do miss out on Angelo Fulgini, the fact the club appeared to be genuine contenders in the hunt for the Ligue 1 midfielder’s signature speaks volumes for Rangers’ ambitions in this window.

Rangers-linked Angelo Fulgini Mainz-bound amid Malik Tillman reports?

That leads us nicely onto the latest player to be linked to Ibrox in the shape of Bayern star and USA international Malik Tillman.

Only 20-years-old, Rangers have been linked with a permanent move for the attacking midfielder with Tillman said to be open to a deal as he looks for more first-team football.

Having made seven appearances for the Bayern first-team, scoring once, the former Germany youth international certainly must have something about him and it’s another exciting link.

But whether the midfielder is being targeted as an Angelo Fulgini alternative or a standalone signing we do not know but we’re sure time will tell.

Whatever happens in the next 24 hours, the fact these two players have been so extensively linked is a massive positive and Europa League Finalists Rangers clearly mean business in this window.

Meanwhile, a rival manager has complained after the Gers pipped his side to one of the club’s main signings in this window.
