Rangers are reportedly set for an imminent seven-figure cash boost after accepting an offer for George Edmundson.

Edmundson featured for the Gers in pre-season but didn’t appear in either of the weekend’s friendlies against Brighton and Hove Albion and Real Madrid.

TWTD.co.uk reports that the Light Blues have accepted an offer in the region of £1m from Ipswich Town, with the player already in England to negotiate personal terms.

The Daily Record also reported on Sunday that Edmundson was likely to leave for a fee of £1m, with the Blues the frontrunners for his signature.

The 6ft 3″ centre-back, who can also play in midfield, joined Rangers from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2019 for a fee in the region of £650,000.

Therefore, the club stand to make a relatively decent profit on the 23-year-old.

Given the number of centre-backs on the books at Ibrox right now, it was always likely that one or two would leave in this window, and Edmundson was the favourite to move on.

He showed promise during his first season at the club, making 16 appearances and even scoring in a Europa League Last 16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

However, he slipped down the pecking order last season, with a high-profile breach of Covid restrictions not helping his cause.

The writing has looked on the wall somewhat ever since Jack Simpson was given his shirt number in January as Edmundson headed on loan to Derby County and although he did relatively well at Pride Park, a genuine return to Gerrard’s plans always looked unlikely.

A defender who left Ibrox for nothing several seasons ago has just joined a new club after having his contract ripped up elsewhere.
