Former Rangers defender Bruno Alves is set to return to Italy after a bust-up dramatically ended his brief stint at Famalicão, according to The Scottish Sun.

96-cap ex-Portugal international Alves was brought to Ibrox in 2017 by Pedro Caixinha but only spent one season at the club.

The veteran showed he still had plenty left to give over the following three seasons, making 86 appearances for Serie A side Parma.

Yet, he announced his departure at the end of last season following their relegation from the top flight.

After a brief period as a free agent, he joined Famalicão on a two-year deal earlier this month.

His father had also played for the Portuguese top-flight club and Alves said it was ‘very special’ for him to have moved there.

However, he would only be a Famalicão player for 20 days, as his contract was ripped up following an alleged bust-up with manager Ivo Vieira.

It seems that the veteran has moved quickly to find a new club, though, as just a few days after becoming available, The Scottish Sun claims that’s he’s set to sign a deal with Crotone.

The Serie B outfit would be the eleventh club (including loans) of his lengthy career and his third Italian side.

Even a one-season deal for the 39-year-old would ensure that he plays into his forties and his longevity is extremely impressive.

Things didn’t quite work out for him at Ibrox but he’s a quality player who has achieved a lot in the game.

Earlier this summer, a blossoming centre-back who played alongside Alves at Ibrox, signed for a Champions League club.
