Former Rangers defender Fabio Cardoso has officially signed for FC Porto, three years on from when his Ibrox nightmare ended.
The Portuguese defender was eventually released from his contract in Glasgow after a tumultuous year at Rangers after being signed by Pedro Caixinha.
Things certainly didn’t work out as planned for Cardoso who struggled to adapt to the Scottish game and the centre-half followed Pedro out the Ibrox exit door.
But after resurrecting his career at Santa Clara in his home country, the player his piqued the interest of leading Portuguese outfit Porto who’ve reportedly spent £1.9m (€2.2m) to sign the defender.
According to Prime Time, FC Porto have handed Cardoso, now 27, a five year deal at the club and also beat off competition from Benfica to sign him.
Remarkably, Cardoso could be about to team up with a former Rangers teammate in Portugal too as the Primeira Liga side reportedly line up a move for Alfredo Morelos.
Morelos, 25, has been extensively linked with a move to the Portuguese side over the last few weeks with the latest reports suggesting Alfie’s agent is travelling to Porto to discuss terms [Maisfutebol via Inside Futbol].
The Ibrox striker even sent a message of congratulations to Cardoso upon announcing the move saying “Eso hermano buena suerte” or “Good luck, brother” in English.
The two players came into Ibrox at the same time in 2017 but both enjoyed considerably different fortunes as Morelos stuck around to become one of the most iconic Gers strikers of a generation.
It’s not clear if this move is a goer or if the two clubs are anywhere close to being on the same page, but should Morelos move he’ll be teaming up with Cardoso once again.
If Porto are serious about moving for Morelos too, then they better be expected to stump up as Rangers look to set a transfer precedent.
