Rangers, Sassuolo and Saint-Etienne eyeing 'decisive' 10-assist speedster - report

Rangers are interested in Nimes Olympique winger Zinedine Ferhat, but face competition from Sassuolo and Saint-Etienne, according to a Foot Mercato report.

The Gers have already strengthened for next season via the capture of KV Oostende forward Fashion Sakala on a pre-contract deal.

Steven Gerrard highlighted the Zambia international’s speed as a key attribute and he might not be the only pacy player the club swoops for before the start of the 2021/22 season.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

That’s because Foot Mercato reports that the Gers are monitoring Ferhat, alongside Serie A side Sassuolo, Saint-Etienne and another unnamed Ligue 1 club.

He is a pacy Algeria international winger, who has scored six goals and notched ten assists from 32 appearances in the French top flight for Nimes this season and is described in the report as one of the most ‘decisive players’ in the league.

It’s an impressive return for a player in a team facing the prospect of relegation to the second tier.

The 28-year-old began his career with USM Alger in his native Algeria, where he won multiple honours.

He was snapped up by Le Havre in 2016, for whom he notched a record 20 assists in Ligue 2 during the 2017/18 season.

Ferhat joined Nimes in 2019 and is under contract until the end of next season.

It’s interesting to see the Gers linked with a naturally right-sided winger, given that no one has been able to nail down that spot in the team since Daniel Candeias left for Gençlerbirligi at the end of the 2018/19 season.

Given his age, he may not have huge potential in terms of resale value, but with over 300 senior games under his belt and a combined total of over 100 goals and assists to his name, Ferhat is a player who may be capable of coming straight into the starting XI and making an impact.

In other news, via a press conference omission, Steven Gerrard may have hinted that a midfielder isn’t in his plans for next season.
