Michael Beale has hinted at signing targets who he has either worked with or been linked with before for Rangers, Lyndon Dykes being an obvious example.
The Gers gaffer didn’t quite give the whole game away but it did get fans guessing and stoked the group chat debates, now though, a London based journalist has taken things one step further.
Lyndon Dykes, was linked with Rangers when he was at Livingston for a fee said to be in the region of £2m, Beale at QPR also had the Scotland international leading the line.
It’s a transfer that makes a lot of sense and Darren Witcoop of the Sunday Mirror has claimed that Dykes is a “top target” for the Gers gaffer as he looks to rebuild his forward line.
Dykes might not be prolific, however, he knows the SPFL and has just a year left on his contract at the Championship club.
Scoring just his eighth goal of the season, the 27-year old found the net past his now international teammate, Angus Gunn, this week and is looking sharper after returning to fitness following a period out through illness.
Gunn himself has all but been ruled out of a move to Ibrox due to his exorbitant valuation of £10m.
Dykes on the other hand would cost considerably less, even if he is an established international now.
Football Transfers has estimated that the powerful hitman would cost in the region of £2m to £3.25m depending on how much QPR are willing to play ball.
There is one Michael Beale shaped elephant in the room though and the chances of the London-based side playing nicely in negotiations is highly unlikely.
The nature of the Gers gaffer’s departure could prove to be a hindrance but, as always, player power will ultimately decide the outcome.
Dykes isn’t the sort of striker that I’d want to replace Alfredo Morelos on his own but, with Antonio Colak, Fashion Sakala and one other that can stay fit, he would add a different dimension.
Prolific he might not be, a handful and a perennial nuisance against Celtic, absolutely.
