If Michael Beale is looking for a central defender he can trust, one with experience, and one he has worked with before, he could do a lot worse for Rangers than Conor Coady.
Having spent this season on loan at Everton, the Wolves defender is heading back to Molineux.
The Goodison Park outfit have decided against activating the £4.5m option to buy clause as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.
Rangers paid a similar price in the £4m that we reportedly paid for Ben Davies and Conor Coady would be an upgrade should we consider a move.
There are a few caveats to this claim in that, first of all, we would have to sell Davies and recoup as much as possible of the reported £4m fee.
The 27-year old won’t be short of offers and, other than a couple of individual mistakes, has been a good player this season.
How does Michael Beale know Conor Coady?
Connor Coady is well known to the Rangers boss having been at Liverpool as a youngster.
It’s not a loose connection either, Michael Beale was his manager between 2011-2014, give or take, when he was assistant manager and then in charge of the Under-21 team.
In terms of persuading Coady to come to Rangers, I don’t think that would be the difficult part.
His £65,000 per week wages on the other hand might be.
Coady has played over 175 times in the Premier League and almost as many games in the Championship, he has a solid reputation and an equally as impressive injury record.
With 10 England caps, Coady is a bargain at £4.5m and if Michael Beale can work his magic, our defence would be in great shape heading into next season.
