According to GiveMeSport, Rangers are eyeing a ‘sensational’ swoop for Wigan Athletic youngster James Carragher, who has also been linked with Everton.
The 18-year-old defender is the son of former Liverpool star and long-term teammate of Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, and is available for a minor fee this summer.

Carragher is yet to make an appearance for Wigan’s first team, but he’s shown promise in past FA Youth Cup outings and the GiveMeSport report claims that he’s impressed the Gers.
Given that he’s out of contract in the summer, only a relatively minor compensation fee would be required to bring him to Ibrox.
Rangers aren’t the only club said to be keen on the centre-back, though.
The Liverpool Echo credited Everton with interest earlier this month, although it was suggested at that point that the Toffees weren’t prepared to match Wigan’s valuation.
Cross-border rules ensure Rangers wouldn’t have to pay anywhere near as much as an English club to land Carragher.

This is an interesting transfer link and Rangers have taken advantage of the cross-border rules in the past, but it would be a surprise if Gerrard was in the market for a young centre-back this summer.
Although options are limited right now due to injuries and loans, Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson are all contracted until at least the end of next season, while promising young players Leon King and Lewis Mayo are also tied down.
In other news, an Ibrox hero has reportedly snubbed an SPFL club after they approached him regarding their managerial vacancy.
