Rangers rejected deadline day bids for two stars as Nils Koppen left ‘delighted’

Transfer deadline day ended up being a damp squib for Rangers fans with no late additions to the squad.

It summed up a slow-moving January transfer window on the whole as centre-back Rafael Fernandes remains the only signing, coming in on loan from Lille.

It was thought Rangers could add in attacking areas before the deadline yesterday, with another loan the most likely option.

But nothing transpired and Philippe Clement will have to work with the squad he has for the rest of the season, potentially handing opportunities to youngsters like Findlay Curtis and Bailey Rice.

But not Zak Lovelace, who headed back to former club Millwall yesterday.

The lack of quality incomings may be a frustration for supporters but there is one saving grace in that no key players were lost.

Rangers reject bids for Ridvan Yilmaz and one other

We told last night how Rangers had reportedly turned down an offer for Ridvan Yilmaz from his former club Besiktas.

According to Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, the offer was a loan-to-buy the left-back, 23.

The proposed deal was said to have been set to include an initial €1m (£830k) up front with €3m (£2.5m) to be paid as an obligation to buy come the end of the season.

But Gers kicked the bid into touch and it’s also claimed the personal terms on offer weren’t enough to tempt the player.

Negotiations were claimed to be “ongoing” at the time but came to nothing.

Now, the Scottish Sun is reporting Ibrox chiefs turned down offers for TWO players on deadline day, with one of them being Yilmaz and the other remaining unnamed.

It is claimed technical director Nils Koppen was working on multiple potential deals until late afternoon, with one being a loan for a wide player.

Koppen ‘delighted’ with Lyall Cameron pre-contract

One deal Rangers did announce on deadline day was a pre-contract agreement with Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron.

The Light Blues fought off competition from Aberdeen to land the 22-year-old and he will be a Gers player come the summer.

Koppen said: “I am delighted that we have agreed a deal for Lyall to join the club and to continue his career at Rangers come the summer.

“He’s a talented young player, who has already gained great experience in the Premiership.

“Adding young, Scottish talent to our first-team squad is hugely important to all of us at the club.

“Lyall has a lot of potential, I look forward to seeing him continue to grow at Rangers in the coming years.”
