Rangers were linked with a move for Gue-sung Cho in the January transfer window with Michael Beale in desperate need for a fit striker.

The South Korea international was fresh off the back of a successful World Cup where he scored two goals in four games and had impressed leading the line.

In this window though, Rangers moved on to other targets with Gue-sung Cho signing for Midtjylland and hitting the ground running in the process.

The 25-year old will be a fans’ favourite already with the Danes after two goals in two league games but for a reported £2.6m, he could so easily have been a Rangers player.

With £5.6m being spent on Cyriel Dessers and a deal for £6m said to have been agreed for Michael Beale’s latest recruit Danilo, the Gers gaffer has been heavily backed.

A new front three was needed and the addition of Sam Lammers looks to be a successful one already with the big Dutchman scoring a couple of neat pre-season goals.

Celtic had a bid rejected in January and Rangers were said to be pushing hard for Gue-sung Cho and yet there didn’t seem to be a repeat of the earlier interest despite the relatively low fee.

As a replacement for Antonio Colak, Cho seemed like the perfect fit.

In the World Cup, it was his all-round play that impressed which is exactly what Beale would be looking for instead of an out and out finisher that relied on service.

Dessers was open about his fitness being an issue having still been recovering from injury when he first signed, however, it will be hoped that when the real football kicks off that he can match the impact of the man who could have had his number nine jersey.
