Rangers recommended ‘super talented’ Scot for potential 2024 transfer

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller singled out namesake Lennon Miller when asked to name a Scottish Premiership talent who should be on the radar of Philippe Clement’s Glasgow giants.

Rangers, it must be said, appear to have moved away from targeting homegrown talent in the last few transfer windows. Their fingers burned by the likes of Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Greg Docherty, the Ibrox outfit have only signed two players from domestic rivals since the beginning of 2020/21 – former Aberdeen winger Scott Wright and ex-Hearts stopper John Souttar.

But if Rangers are to break from recent tradition and look closer to home for players capable of enhancing Philippe Clement’s squad, Kenny Miller believes that they could do a lot worse than to set their sights on a Scotland U19 international building up quite the reputation for himself at Motherwell.

“The one that kind of stands out for me at the moment, but he’s still very, very young with few games under his belt, is the lad Lennon Miller at Motherwell,” the four-time Premiership champion tells Clyde SuperScoreboard.

“I still think if he was to be signed by either of the Old Firm, it would be more of one of those projects because he’s not been in the first-team long enough to go and show what he can do.

“He’s still very young as well. Rangers and Celtic over the years have definitely just handpicked the best players in the league but they seem to have moved away from that in the last ten years or so.”

One of the first names on the Motherwell team sheet at the age of just 17, scouts have been flocking north of the border of late. According to TEAMtalk, there is interest from Tottenham, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton, Brentford and West Ham too.

‘Got terrific potential’

Labelled ‘super talented’ by Motherwell boss Steven Hammell, Miller could yet become the latest baby-faced Scot to secure himself a big move to one of Europe’s major leagues, following in the footsteps of Josh Doig, Lewis Ferguson, Calvin Ramsey and Aaron Hickey.

“I think he’s got terrific potential,” adds Gordan Dalziel, the Motherwell-born former Rangers forward. “He’s certainly one for the future.”

Clement, ahead of Rangers’ trip to Hearts on Wednesday night, admitted that he would look to make some changes in the January window with talks over a permanent deal for top scorer Abdallah Sima likely to start soon.
