Rangers midfielder Bongani Zungu has been spotted back in training ahead of Sunday’s Premiership clash with Hibernian as he eyes a return to action [Rangers.co.uk].

Zungu last turned out for the Gers in the Europa League Last 16 second-leg defeat to Slavia Prague at Ibrox in mid-March.

It’s likely that he would have started last weekend’s Scottish Cup third round tie against Cove Rangers at the same venue, but prior to the match, Steven Gerrard confirmed that he’d been ruled out with a hip injury [Daily Record].

However, it looks as though he’s back fit and in contention to be involved against the Hibees on Sunday afternoon.

The 28-year-old features on multiple occasions in a training gallery shared by the club on Friday evening, as does Jack Simpson, who also missed out on a start against Cove due to a knock, but was deemed fit enough to make the bench.

This weekend’s fixture could be one of the final matches Zungu is available for before his loan deal from Amiens expires.

That’s because he was recently hit with a six-match ban by the SFA (two suspended) for breaching Covid regulations with four other players back in February, and although an appeal date has been set for 20th April, it seems unlikely that the verdict will be totally overturned.

The Bafana Bafana star has made 19 appearances for the Gers across all competitions since signing in October but is yet to register a goal or an assist.

Meanwhile, Rangers have reportedly made contact with an EFL club regarding a pacy attacker.
